Denim is outperforming the wider apparel market. According to industry data cited by Chinese textile media on 3 November, China's jeans exports reached USD 8.47 billion across 2.98 billion pairs in 2025, up 6.3% and 6.4% respectively year on year — even as the country's total textile and apparel exports slipped 2.4% to USD 293.77 billion.

The contrast underlines a structural shift: rather than buying more denim overall, buyers are paying more per unit for differentiated product. The same industry outlook puts the global denim market at roughly USD 98.4 billion in 2025, growing to about USD 155.3 billion by 2034 at an annual rate near 5.2%. Recycled denim is expanding even faster, with forecast growth accelerating from 8.2% to 13.1% between 2026 and 2027.

For wholesale buyers, the practical reading is straightforward. Volume demand is stable, but order growth is concentrating in finishes and fibers that justify a premium — laser and ozone washes, certified recycled cotton, and texture treatments such as flocked and corduroy-effect denim. Production clusters in Guangdong, which account for the majority of China's denim output, are shifting capacity toward these higher-value programs.

As overall apparel demand softens, denim's counter-cyclical resilience makes it one of the few categories where suppliers with certified sustainable processes and stable quality can still expand their order books into 2027.
